Schwabnozzle talks shit!
AdAge has a video interview with broker, Charles Schwab CMO, Becky Seager who goes on and on about how fucking brilliant their roboscoped ads are. Her point is that all the customers featured in the spots say the most marvelous and stunning things, apparently without any kind of prompting. Which sounds like a crock of shit to me. People do not sit in front of a camera crew and make esoteric comments about fucking fees and dividends. But, even if they did… Why the fuck are you roboscoping them so their fucking mouths seem to be slightly out of sync with the shit they're rattling on about. Why not use real people on film if you think the words are so powerful? But then it wouldn't look like an ad, would it? Maybe that's the point, right? Am I fucking missing something here?
Who the fuck are you calling a Schwabnozzle?
i have yet to meet anyone who doesnt believe that the Schwab ads are the creepiest freakin things on TV. they freak the hell out of me.
FYI: The same agency that does your beloved Most Interesting Man In The World ads do Schwab.
titmouse
They’re actors.
the schwab ads are terrible, just terrible. The copy is fucking dreadful. the dos equis ads are the exception not the rule to the usual dreck euro churns out.
Hey…
Yeah, I liked the MIMITW world stuff, cos it had an old fart like me in it… And it was a break from most of the dreadful beer stuff out there… But not much else from Euro impresses me these days. Actually, not much stuff from anywhere impresses me these days.
Cheers/George
I actually like them. Theyre well written, and visually interesting.
Cant think of anything else in the finance category thats better.
these ads freak me out, not to mention mess with your vision- looking for the person underneath the cartoon- you know what I mean, you can fucking see it.
PLus - the technique of filming them and then posterizing is a metaphor for the mask of crap that these actors represent.
he took the studio that did 2 movies like that and paid them handsomely to do the campaign…
richard linklater, waking life and a scanner darkly both well received art house flicks…
not sure about the creepy comments, theyre just cartoons… you can look for the person underneath, but thats your brain playing tricks on you… the frames are rendered and output according to the animators settings, wiping out the original image on the fame and replacing it with the new art…

me? i like em, as big jim says… nothing like them in the sector and isnt everyone always whining that everything looks the same in any given sector? give them some props for breaking out of that box…
Hey guys, I just wanted to check with you on this thing.
This week I see a lot of the accounts in my region calling for media and creative reviews. On the surface it might seem good news to struggling shops.
However, you may want to take note of the budget that they now want you to work with…
Shit, wheres Keanu Reeves when you need him?!
I totally agree, these ads SUCK IT… total FAIL… the cartoonish treatment destroys any feeling that these are the comments of a real person that you can believe. WHO IS THE TARGET AUDIENCE? Why this treatment? When these come on all I do is ask myself over and over WTF?! The worst campaign in living memory…
LMFAO at roboscoping! I think youve invented a new term George.
Yes, what we really need is more traditional testimonials about, The Schwab difference, or how they really care.
Who is the target audience? Its obvious to me the target audience are fairly savvy investors, who are skeptical about what exactly other brokerage houses do for them. Its dead on.
As far as the treatment goes, what else do you have in mind? Something more……creative?
Comments are on! Hoorah!
No, I dont like these ads either. However, when it comes to financial services ads I think the talking baby spots for E-TRADE are way, way better than these spooky, animated efforts.
